Dawn Saunders In my previous life I was a Dental Surgery Assistant. Latterly I became involved with the development of the SVQ/NVQ training course for Dental Surgery Assistants and went on to train as both an Assessor and Internal Verifier for the NHS to oversee the development of the trainee nurses. I have owned horses for the last 24 years and before trimming feet took over my life I was a keen endurance rider and reached Gold Series. I have also taken part in many multi-day hill rides with my own horses.
I began hoof trimming in 2005 and certified in Geneva at the Swiss School of Barehoof Trimming, directed by Dan Guerrera during 2008.
In 2010 I was accepted as a member of the American Hoof Association and subsequently was voted onto the Board of Directors. I currently hold the position of secretary. I am also a mentor for the Pacific Hoofcare Practitioners and an Associate Member of the UKNHCP.
For the last 8 years I have attended Alexandra Kurland's multi day clinics and am a keen clicker trainer.
Ever keen to continue learning I have organised clinics on behalf of Barefootworks with some of the leading researchers in the equine world and in doing so have been lucky enough to spend a lot of personal time in their company. Education is definitely the way forward in my opinion and I always strive to get the message across that the hoof is the end result of many other contributing factors.
